Caren Churchbuilder
President & CEO

TLE was founded in 2007. It is the brainchild of Caren Churchbuilder, an editor in NYC who wanted to make a life change but didn’t want to stop doing what she loved.

Caren had started her publishing career in 1998 as an editorial assistant for Steck-Vaughn Publishing, which would later fall under the umbrella of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Working for a small, self-sustaining division of a large publisher had unexpected benefits, and Caren was given responsibilities and learning opportunities early in her career. These experiences helped to pave the path to independence.

She climbed the corporate ladder and transitioned to McGraw-Hill Education in New York City. There, she fulfilled a position in a small group that was created to aid editorial departments in emergency situations. Team members were chosen for their knowledge, experience, and grace under pressure. In this position, Caren fine-tuned her management skills and learned the true meaning of leadership.

With ambitious goals, she set out in 2007 to establish Turning Leaf Editorial, a company named for the large maple tree outside her office window. Since that time, TLE has grown into an A-list editorial developer with the best writers and editors in the industry.

We are proud of TLE’s reputation for quality, dependability, flexibility, and dedication to perfection. We also understand the importance of our work and the influence we have on children across the nation and the world. Accordingly, we continuously strive to exceed expectations and perform
at the top of our field.

Today, TLE is a happy, productive network of talented people coming together to make
a difference in education . . . one project at a time!
